EXHIBITION
TITLE: AIR / ART IN FLIGHT
PLACE: UCM
ART GALLERY / SHIPU WAN (Director) LORA SPIELMAN (Coordinator)
ORGANIZATION:
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA IN MERCED / DEAN JILL ROBBINS
ARTIST:
OLGA DIEGO
This exhibition was complementary to
the ART IN FLIGHT course that Olga Diego taught at the University of California
in Merced in 2017. This, together with another exhibition at the MAC, a
subsequent exhibition of the final flight device also at the MAC, participation
at ARTHop , as well as two events with performances on flight at the
university, formed the ART IN FLIGHT project.
In the exhibition at the UCM Art
Gallery, sculptures of smaller sizes were shown at the MAC. But where it went a
step further was the fusion between art and electronics.
It was a space where students and
visitors could understand how ideas were developed in the work of Olga Diego.
For this, THE PROCESS demonstrated a photographic exhibition that showed the
growth of ideas and their final culmination. There we could see sketches and
calculations taken from Olga's notebooks along with photographs of the finished
works.
The participation and interest of
the students in the exhibition was very high in understanding the fusion
between different disciplines amongst others electronic engineering,
architecture, aeronautic engineering and art.
