Distant voices- Here! Is a multimedia project that was created following a query on Google maps when searching for (Tirifati) with the aim to view the place from a distance. To our surprise, the virtual map showed nothing but a desert: a map deprived of any information about people and places.

Therefore, the project focused on mapping out a territory including its social-cultural existence. We used air devices to capture the isolation and politic solitude of a country, ignored by a large part of the international community.

The making of such a map originated from the desire to provide this territory with plural evidence, making the existence of their cultural identity known, especially when it has been erased from the map by other countries for social and economical reasons.

Linking the project to a blog http://vocesdistantesaqui.blogspot.com/ should give global visibility of the every day reality experienced by the people of SADR (Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic).

Aligned with this idea which was presented at a conference held in CENDEAC (Murcia). Andrea Giunta spoke about the idea of “situational aliens”. This, in reference to certain forms of exclusion that may not only occur socially but also within the home. These ideas about the digital divide as another form of exclusion introduces the idea of being able to act as mediators to help extend voices that are being silenced and helping to make their presence recognised in an environment that is not easily accessible to them.

The Artifariti.org website is already working towards that goal. This new blog will be used to gather and spread the voice of the people from Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic
