PETRACOS PROJECT

Presented at the Gil-Albert Institute of Culture of Alicante. PETRACOS: PLATFORMS FOR THE SOCIAL INNOVATION OF SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES AND PRODUCTS OF ALICANTE.

Directed by the architect and professor: J.M. Torres Nadal.

My collaboration for this platform consisted of the construction of two inflatable sculptures following the principles, objectives and concepts discussed in the various meetings held by the team thorough the project. Sustainability, renewable energies and innovation are well defined by the artist and member of this project: Teresa Lanceta - INNOVATE is to achieve that everyone benefits implicitly from the benefit to oneself.

1 st Presentation at the Institute of Culture Gil-Albert de Alicante.
2 nd Presentation at the Palace of the Provincial Council of Alicante.

Second and final presentation from “PETRACOS” at the Palacio de la Diputación de Alicante.

Second sculpture: “On The Move”.

The construction of this second piece has been very satisfactory because it has meant a greater and more complex immersion in the construction technique of inflatable structures as applied to architectural space, sculpture, installation etc.

A wheeled suitcase, like the ones commonly used for travelling, deploys a huge white inflatable. Activated by a small fan it slowly takes form and shows the idea of the equipment necessary, indispensable and ideal to occupy our next home. If it only worked as such it would be the ideal solution for the rhythm of life and the changes of residence that we are obliged to undertake. As you can see in the images, this inflatable is divided into four areas: bedroom, kitchen, study room and bathroom.

Nearly perfect, if it only were real!

Segunda escultura: “On the move”.

First sculpture: “Model PETRACOS”.

It is created and supports itself using inflatables and automations utilising, as far as possible, recycled waste material.

Three platforms superimposed one above the other. Nine rooms on each floor made of white plastic are connected through small fans that expel air in various directions, producing a constant movement of air between the different cells. A materialisation of being and not being, of being at bursting point one moment to then immediately giving up all your air to inflate the adjacent rooms. This reproduces the vital relationship between individuality and communal, the individual within the collective with its stresses and strains and the need for flexibility in a relationship. Similarly, the support structure for the three platforms and the twenty seven relatively separate rooms is light and flexible, which allows for the elasticity and the accompanying movement.
